On Sunday, June 28, 2009, on her wedding anniversary, Karen (Kelley) Murray passed away at The Westerly Hospital, surrounded by loved ones. She leaves behind, her loving husband, Terence Murray, of Westerly. She also leaves behind a son, Jeff Beaudoin, and a daughter, Gloria Beaudoin. She was a proud Gramma to Jeff's children, Steven and Ashton, and Gloria's daughters, Brittni, Eudeja, and Zhamiya. She was also a loving step-mother to Sharon and Richard. As the sixth child of seven, she leaves siblings, Eddie, Peter, Carol, Dale, Stella, and Nancy. She will also be missed by many nieces and nephews. Born in Portland, Maine, she graduated from Casco Bay College. Traveling the country, she settled in Westerly, where she became an asset to the Westerly Housing Authority. After 15 years, she recently retired. Working at the housing authority was where she was the happiest, helping the community without judgment with their housing needs along with a warm smile and words of encouragement, or anything else she could do to put a smile on people's faces. Along with being a breath of fresh air to the community, she was also a breast cancer survivor who offered words of comfort to others in emotional need, both in person and on her diary Web site. Through all of this, she published a book, "If You Want Warm and Fuzzy, Buy a Dog." So, not only has she been a lifelong member of the VFW ladies auxiliary, she will be a lifelong member in many people's hearts. Services will be private, although there will be a public celebration of her life at 4 p.m. today, at Chestnut Court, Westerly Housing Authority, 5 Chestnut St., Westerly.
