3-Day Weekend I had a very interesting week. We pretty much settled our contract at work. We got everything we wanted. Eeee-hawww! I am golden for another 3 years and my doctors are going to be ecstatic. We keep our insurance as is. I remember a time in my 20s and 30s when I didnt care if I even HAD insurance. Now is like oxygen, food and water. A definite necessity. ********************************************* Another interesting turn was in the form of our property taxes. When I lived in Maine the state charged excise tax on your vehicle. When you registered it, you would pay a tax based on the value of your vehicle. I never knew how they valued it. I didnt care. At that point, my cars were all junk buckets so I never paid much excise tax anyway. In Rhode Island, you pay a property tax to the town for your vehicle. They bill it yearly in July and you pay it in quarterly installments. We were discussing this at work and it dawned on me that I hadnt gotten a bill. I called town hall and they told me that I owned them nothing because the value of my car didnt exceed the $4,500.00 that they taxed. ????? That really shocked me. I had to find out so I went into the Kelley Blue B**k. It seems that if you were to buy my car retail, it would cost $8,810. If you were to buy it through a private sale, it would cost you $5885.00 BUT, the trade-in value is only $4,245! This is the first time in my life that I am glad my cars trade-in value is low. I keep this baby up it will be many, many years before I ever have to pay property taxes on my car again. Good stuff. ************************************************* I went shopping the other day for my new Great-niece. I bought her three outfits from the Care Bear line. They are so tiny! I better get pictures. I also bought a robe for Steph, my niece. Mommys need presents too. I waited to buy anything because I wanted to get something she could use after all the newborn things she got. Sarahs mom, sister Buella buys her lots too. The kid will never be nekkid. ************************************************* I ordered my new Happy Potter Goblet of Fire DVD on Amaz*n last night. I scored a couple of dollars cheaper than I would have at C*lumbia House. But therein lys a dilemma. It is $2.00 cheaper and then when you click the checkout they tell you that if you just spend $3.19 more you get free shipping! Well, Im all about FREE. I ended up spending $9.00 more for a copy of Dragonslayer. So final tally is two movies for $30.00 instead of one for $24.00 plus shipping. I am such a sale-slut. Our count of movies is now up to 367. We are movie-sluts too. We have probably 100 that we havent even watched. We just finished watching The Terminal. Great movie! Add it to your list if you havent seen it. ************************************************** Well, time to do something productive. Think Ill make a drink. Im selebrating a 3-day weekend. How about you
