Cooking up a storm, a lovely e-mail and yada yada Good Morning. Guess what I made yesterday. I made Baklava! I had heard it was difficult to make, but I didn't seem to have a lot of trouble. What amazed me is that it came out perfect! I am amazed because I am one of those people that can normally follow a recipe to a T and it never comes out like someone elses. I could stand right next to my sister, Stella and make fried chicken exactly the same way she is making it but mine never ever comes out as good as hers. Why? I haven't a clue. So anyway, now that I have succeeded in making the Baklava, I can add that to my short list of things I can make that I consider excellent. I'm blowing my own horn here, I understand, but it is a very short horn. More like blowing my own bugle. Ummm, make that a Kazoo. My whole list is, Lasagna, Shrimp Scampi, Peanut brittle and now Baklava. Betty Crocker won't be beating down my door any time soon. Don't get me wrong. I am a good cook, I'm just not an amazing cook. If you live here you won't starve to death but you won't put on the huge weight that you would living with a Emeril.
The following was sent to me in an E-mail by my niece in England. I thought it was a wonderful sentiment.
HOW TO STAY YOUNG
1. Throw out nonessential numbers. This includes age, weight and height. Let the doctor worry about them That is why you pay him/her.
2. Keep only cheerful friends. The grouches pull you down.
3. Keep learning. Learn more about the computer, crafts, gardening, whatever Never let the brain idle. " An idle mind is the devil's workshop." And the devil's name is Alzheimer's.
4. Enjoy the simple things.
5. Laugh often, long and loud. Laugh until you gasp for breath.
6. The tears happen. Endure, grieve, and move on. The only person who is with us our entire life, is ourselves. Be ALIVE while you are alive.
7. Surround yourself with what you love, whether it's family, pets, keepsakes, music, plants, hobbies, whatever. Your home is your refuge.
8. Cherish your health: If it is good, preserve it. If it is unstable, improve it. If it is beyond what you can improve, get help.
9. Don't take guilt trips. Take a trip to the mall, to the next county, to a foreign country, but NOT to where the guilt is.
10. Tell the people you love that you love them, at every opportunity.
AND ALWAYS REMEMBER:
Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take,
but by the moments that take our breath away.
I agree with all of them with the exception of #2. I think you need grumpy friends for balance and maybe if you helped, they wouldn't be grumpy anymore. That bottom part reminds me of msleslie I have a favor to ask if anyone can help me. Did anyone by any chance, tape the final 2-hour episode of Charmed? I meant to, but didn't realize it was two hours and only taped one. If anyone did and wouldn't mind parting with it, I would be happy to pay for shipping. I would even return it if you wanted. I'm off to save the world or slay a dragon or something. You all have a great Sunday. Later
Later, Cosmic
