For Rent

Well, round one of the apartment calls is underway. It is interesting talking to total strangers and asking them personal questions. I do that at work, but I'm in an office. It feels strange doing it in my living room.

I have shown it to one perspective tenant so far. A nice enough guy with a girlfriend and 3 year old daughter. I was going through the interview process, where do you work, where does your girlfriend work etc. Everything was fine. He loved the apartment. I handed him the Background Credit check and he didn't even flinch. I am thinking, "I like this guy. I think he may be my new neighbor." But then he had to go and blow it.

I told him we were quite folks and wanted other quiet people that didn't blare stereo's on work nights and have friends in and out at all hours. He told me that he agreed with me. He said they are quiet too. That's why he wants the apartment. Because all their friends do that now. In and out all the time. They want to move into a new place where their friends don't know about. Uh huh. I would give them two weeks before all their "friends" found out their new address.

The next call I got was from a nurse. She is supposed to call me back tomorrow to schedule an appointment to see it. She has no children but a grandson that visits from time to time from two states away. My kind of neighbor.

Next on the hit parade is a lady that called about herself and her husband. One of the first questions she asked was if there were any dogs in the neighborhood. I told her there was one on one side and two little ones the next house over. She said her husband could not tolerate barking dogs. Ok, I guess. I told her she didn't have to worry because since we are on a main road, the traffic would drown it out. Then she asked if there were kids in the neighborhood. She said that her husband hates kids almost as much as he hates barking dogs. I told her that we don't really have any children in the neighborhood except my 3 grandchildren that visit, but not often enough. I also kind of fudged it and said she is looking for a place closer so she can bring the kids over more often.

She is coming Thursday to see the apartment anyway. I think I'm going to borrow a few dogs and kids for the occasion. Maybe I should also tell the house next door has rats. Hey, they don't bark.

Gee, I hope the nurse calls back.

Later...

Later,
Cosmic
