Happy Birthday to Me-e-e-e-e

Well, I am now another year older. 49. Wow, only one year left to be in my 40's. But there are two old sayings that I think about this morning. One is...

"I hate the thought of getting old until I consider the alternative".

Yup, getting old sure beats not getting any older! But the other saying is a little more sobering.

"Don't worry about getting old. It is a privilege that is denied many."

It sure is.

Forest Employee Charged in Wildfires

CASTLE ROCK, Colo. (AP) - A U.S. Forest Service employee set the fire that scorched more than 100,000 acres in Colorado and forced thousands to evacuate by burning a letter from her estranged husband in the Pike National Forest, authorities said Sunday.

Forestry technician Terry Barton, 38, admitted starting the fire while patrolling the forest to enforce a fire ban, said assistant U.S. Attorney Bill Leone.

She was charged with setting fire to timber in the national forest, damaging federal property and making false statements to investigators, Leone said.

Barton said she started burning the letter from her estranged husband within a designated campfire ring, where fires normally would be allowed, then tried to put out the blaze.

"She attempted to suppress the fire but it grew," Leone said.

Barton initially told authorities she discovered an illegal campfire and had tried to put it out by throwing dirt on it, but it was too late. An investigation led the Forest Service to doubt her story, Leone said.

If convicted, Barton could be sentenced to up to 10 years in prison and fines of up to $250,000. She was arrested Sunday morning; it was not immediately clear whether she had an attorney.

She was scheduled to make an initial court appearance in federal court Monday.

Can you believe that? How sad that one stupid act could cause so much damage. But 10 years in prison? Come on! You have people committing deliberate acts of pyromania and manslaughter that don't get that much time. I think what she did was totally stupid and definitely bad judgment, but it wasn't intentional, for God's sake. Her biggest boo-boo was lying about it.

Can you see her in the big house? Big Momma, who is in there for murdering her pimp and Geraldine who is serving life for stabbing her husband to death are sitting around chatting it up with this woman.

"Yo, Terry. I slaughtered my no-good-beating-thieving pimp and Geraldine here is a lifer for playing slice and dice on her old man. What chu hea fo?"

I burned a letter from my ex-husband."

Doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. If I were the judge? Two years. Out in 18 months. Sure she caused a whole lot of damage and displaced a lot of people, but it was a stupid accident!

I got the nicest present yesterday. Hubby always gives me my presents when he buys them. He's worse than a kid sometimes. I have started collecting angel figurines since I re-did my bedroom. I have been collecting music boxes for a few years. Hubby bought me the most beautiful musical angel! She is standing on a little mound with children going down a slide in front of her and even a few little animals around them too. It is gorgeous. It plays "que sera, sera". I have memories of hearing Doris Day sing that when I was little. Hated her, loved the song. I used to sing it to my kids when they were babies. For any of you young-uns reading this that may be unaware of the words, they go like this.

When I was just a little girl, I asked my mother, what will I be.
Will I be pretty? Will I be rich?
Here's what she said to me

Que sera, sera. Whatever will be, will be.
The future's not ours to see
Que sera, sera.

I know, a little lame, but there was another verse I can't remember. But it was still a nice little lull-a-bye.

Well I'm off to get my license renewed. I killed the coffee brandy last night with sister Carol. One word of warning to you all. Don't wait till the last minute to renew your drivers license if you plan on drinking the night before. The picture is going to be terrible and I'm stuck with it for the next 6 years!

Later...

Later,
Cosmic
