The Answers

Whats the best thing that ever happened to you?

Wow, a tough one right off the bat! Aside from the obvious answer about having my kids, I would have to say the day I graduated college. I had quit school at the end of my freshman year in high school. I was 14. After marriage, two kids divorce, and a few years I needed a job. I was 26. I decided that if I ever wanted to earn at least minimum wage, I would have to get a diploma or at least a GED.

I went into the adult learning center and took three hours of tests, went back the next day and took two more hours of tests. The next day they gave me my GED. I had passed. By that time, I was feeling my Cheerios and figured if I could do that, maybe I could go to college. Two and a half years later, I stood on the stage and was given my honest to God, real diploma. I had switched my program so much that I ended up with a diploma instead of an associates degree, but I earned 51 credits.

It was probably the proudest day of my life.

Here's one: How did you end up in Rhode Island? How long have you lived there? (Okay, two.)

That one is easier. I took off to work resorts in 1989. My youngest was 17 and wanted to live with her dad for a year before she went out on her own. Jeff had already moved out and since I had never been out of New England, I decided to see some of the rest of the country. I would work down in Florida in the winter and in New England in the summer. All was well until the spring of 1994.

To make a long story short, I had to have an angioplasty done. After that, I was supposed to come to RI to work for the summer. I decided I would, though I planned to go back to Maine after the summer was through. I met some really wonderful people here and when one of the women I worked with offered for me to come back and stay with her while I found work, I took her up on it. I went back to Maine for a week and came back here. Within a week, I found a room and had a job.

I have moved several times to bigger places, but I am still at the same job after 10 years. I guess I liked it here.

OK...Here's my question. Describe the most wonderful day of you life.

Ok, Wonderful? Now I will give this answer. I had two. The first was the day my son was born and the next was the birth of my daughter.

LA

I asked nice questions the last time questions were making the rounds! But here's one anyhow: Please tell us about an incident involving underpants.

Are you on drugs?? Nevermind. Just send me some. Underpants? Wow, I cant even think of one. Oh wait! I do have one!!

When I was pregnant with my son, we were poor folks. I didnt have money for maternity clothes. I was out one day and started having cramps. I got to the clinic and waited to see the doctor The nurse came in and told me to take off my pants but keep my underwear on. I was never so embarrassed in my life. Imagine being an 18 year old girl with a good looking 30 year old doctor sitting there being examined in my husbands Fruit of the Looms. I was mortified.

I just thought of another question that I need to know. Describe your perfect date. You have to use all 5 senses.

Hmmm. A perfect date. Well, first we have to have the perfect person. That would be Terry. We would go down to Misquamicut Beach to The Pleasant View Hotel. We would sip a fine bottle of Mateus while dining on boiled Lobster. After, we would kick back and listen to the band for awhile. Later, we would retire to our room and sit on the outside balcony holding hands and kissing occasionally as we watch the sun come up and enjoying the salty aroma of the ocean breeze. Yup. Perfect.

If you could be present to witness any event, at any time in the world's history, what event would you choose and why?

Well now, that is interesting. I think there are two. First, and this is a biggie. I would like to have witnessed the day Christ came out from the caves after his death. Why? Perhaps it would restore my faith in Christianity. I would give anything to be able to believe again. A large part of my life is missing. It is called faith. The other would be to have witnessed the last day of Jimmy Hoffas life. If anyone could prove what happened to him, they would be a millionaire.

If you had to choose to pick one day of your life to relive again, what day would it be, how would you relive it and why did you pick that day. You may answer in any order.

There is more than one way to answer this. Logically, I would never have married my first husband that day. Or any other day. Not that the man is that horrible, but I was far too young and my life would have been entirely different if I had finished school and gone on to college back then. But, I would not have my kids and grandkids, nor Terry. So I couldnt go back and change it.

Another is the day I put in for a discharge from the Army. I should have stayed. I would have been able to retire with a great pension at 46. Then again, I would never have met Terry. Nope. Cant change that either.

Ok, one day I really would change? If I could go back, I would marry Terry a week after I met him. Since he would then have had insurance, he would have gone to the doctor 4 years sooner and would probably still have his legs. Yup, thats it.

A two-parter: (a) Have you ever been to either of those gaming establishments in Connecticut? (I don't recall reading anything to that effect and yet they are nearby); and (b) how do you feel about such an establishment in Rhode Island -- yea or nay?

I have been to both. I have gone to Foxwoods probably 7 times in 10 years. I have been to Mohegan Sun once for a Hermans Hermits concert. I am 15 minutes from Foxwoods and 20 25 from Mohegan. I hate to see another casino in the area. The other two have created a double edged sword. It provided many jobs for the area, but also brought in many people from outside looking for work. Our affordable housing here took a huge hit. Landlords went up on the rents to the point of craziness. So, no. I hope they never build another one.

If your life were a work of fiction, what would it be classified as: a romance, a mystery, science-fiction, historical, drama, true-crime, or something else? (Sorry, biography doesn't count... that would take all the fun out of the question!)

It would probably be a Comedy with some dramatic moments. Ok, to be honest? Probably the reverse, but a lot of comedy thrown in.

Summer-Gale

You have just won a full scholarship to an ivy league college with a grant that will leave you with the same income you have now for the next 4 years. What subject are you going to major in and why.

I am finally going to be a Lawyer!! Ya!! I have wanted to be a lawyer forever. I used to envision myself being the lawyer that fought for people that couldnt afford the big guys. I would only take clients that I believed were innocent and I would fight to the death for them. I wouldnt defend anyone I felt was guilty. They get what they can afford or what they deserve. I would fight the slumlords that force their tenants to live like animals, the social security administration that give money to drunks and burn-outs but not to honest people with disabilities and the big business that trample the little guy. Give me a law degree and stand back!

What has been the most rewarding thing about having kids. The most challenging? What about Grandkids?

I think one of the most rewarding things about having kids is knowing that no matter who has come into my life or left it, that there are two people that love me unconditionally and always will. Selfish, I know. It is rewarding to watch them do something for which I am proud.

It is rewarding seeing my daughter hug and kiss her babies and know that she is raising them the same way she was raised, with no nonsense, with love and putting them first.

The challenges? Let me count them. Wow. It is an awesome responsibility. Knowing that anything you do or say can have an effect on who this person will grow up to become. Knowing that you have a duty to protect this person and teach this person compassion, discipline and values. It isnt always easy. It sometimes goes wrong. Parents arent perfect. But if you raise the child with love and honesty youve won half the battle.

Grandkids are a whole different matter. When we are parents, we are constantly testing the waters. We are never sure if what we are doing is right. But with grandchildren, you have already learned what did and didnt work. Children believe their parents because they are older, but they REALLY believe grammie and grandpa because we are REALLY old so we MUST be right. We can feed them all the candy we want and not have to be there when their parents are trying to get them to bed while they are still on a sugar high. We can spend money on them for no reason. We can get away with anything. Ya. Grandkids are the coolest things since Hula Hoops.

That wasn't 20, but wow was that exhausting!

Later,
Cosmic
