Funerals

I have a funeral to attend this morning. I hate funerals. I can write and write when I am trying to get apoint across and I can sit and go on forever about most any subject, but put me in a room with 50 greiving people and I don't know what to say. I get very uncomfortable. It would be different if I had some stories to share about the lady that died, but I think I only met her once. I would take her messages when she called the office for her son, but that was the extent of our relationship.

Of course I am going to pay my respect to my co-worker but I never understood funerals. I still don't. When I die, I want someone to throw a party. Seriousley. Drink, laugh and tell stupid stories about me. Have fun remembering the dumb things I've done. Be happy that I've passed on to a bettr (I sincerely want to believe) place and don't cry for me. Maybe it's because I'm Irish, I don't know.

Eddie Griffin. Now there was an Irishman! He knew he wasn't going to around for much longer back around 1982 so he threw his own wake. It was quite the party.

Ed had been as march a part of South Portland and the Million Dollar bridge. He ownded a bar that was adorned with pictures of him with all walks of sports people and tons of autographed pictures. He was known in the comunity for all his work with the kids. He got many kids off the street and made boxers out of them. But Eddie himself was a character! He had bands perform occsionally on Saturday nights. I can still hear him singing "Danny Boy". The local TV station showed up for his wake and he made the news the next day. The Governer, State reps and other semi-celebrates were in attendance and they all drank and talked the night away. Yup, that was a wake to beat all wakes.

This morning, after the funeral, we will all meet for food and condolences for Agnes. She was a lovely lady. She was a good mom that raised 7 kids. She will be missed.

Later...

Later,
Cosmic
