Doctor Visit Moving right along... I went to my doctor yesterday for my shoulder. Doctor: "Can you do this?? He lifted his left arm straight up at his side. Me: "No problem." I did it. He thought that was pretty good until I told him that wasn't the shoulder that was bothering me. He told me to try it with the right arm. I managed to lift it up to a straight out 45 degree angle. That was it. He then had me lift it up in front of me with my thumb stuck up straight. As I did it, I couldn't resist, "Ayyyyyyyyyy! Sorry, that's the Fonzie in me." So after checking different angles and degrees, he said he was very surprised at me for waiting so long. He told me all my muscles and tendons were absolutely frozen tight. Doctor: "You must be in a great deal of pain. Why did you wait so long to come it?" Me: "Well, I have this tingly feeling in the tips of my fingers for a month or so now. You know me. I wait untill I have two or more things to bitch about before I come in. I want to get as much as I can for my $10.00 co-pay.": So now he has me lift my head and lower my head. All the while he is squeezing my throat and neck. Doctor: "You may have a thyroid problem". Me: "First things first. About my shoulder...." Doctor. "Well, what do you think?" Me: "I think you need to start me on a run of Vioxx and muscle relaxers. I stay on those for a week to ten days and if it isn't better, you try to send me to rehab, but I will tell you to forget it, because it's a waste of time. The reason for this is that they will tell me a bunch of exercises that I already know to strenghten my shoulder that I can't do because it damn well hurts! And another week will go by and it will be fine." (I know this from the time I hurt the other shoulder). Doctor: "Fine, I will stock you up on Vioxx and cyclobenzeprine and see how you do." Me: "Is the cyclo-what-ever going to make me loopy?"
Doctor: "Well they will really relax you. You will become one with the couch." Me: "What about driving? Am I going to become one with the asphalt?" Doctor (laughing) "That's a good one!! Or one with the oncoming traffic?" Me: Gee Bob, don't you wish you hadn't wasted all that money on Medical school? Give me my drugs and I'll get out of here."
I left with us both forgetting about my thyroid. Oh well, I'll call him on Monday. He is such a cool doctor. He wouldn't even take my co-pay. I think it's because he told me he is going to Maine for the week-end and I gave him all the places to go up there. He wanted the name of a good restraunt and told me he wanted to pick up shoes for his kids. I sent him to Capt'n Newarks for dinner and to Freeport, hom of tL.L.Bean and the outlet stores. I went to bingo last night. I had my sister pick me up and bring me home so I could find out how loopy these pills would make me. Aside from being incredibly tired two hours after I took it, I can drive. It's only 5 minutes from my work to home and it isn't so bad that I would fall asleep. I just could have easily if I had been laying down. I already notice a difference this morning. Though it is still aching, I was told by the pharmacist that I can take tylenol for the pain. It is much better though. At least I can reach around to my back now. I couldn't do that yesterday. No luck for me at bingo. Carol won $80.00 though, so that was nice. Busy week end planned. I have my sisters taxes to go over and 4 lessons to complete for school. You all have a geat one in case I don't get a chance to get on here this week-end. (Ya, like that would stop me.) Later...
