Hot, hot, hot and Friday 5 COULD IT POSSIBLY GET ANY HOTTER???? This is freakin ridiculous! Ok, I am whining. Damn straight, I am!! Three days in a row, over 90! I should have lost 50 pounds by now. No such luck. I really, really hate this. I am trying to talk Terry into moving to Alaska. Not much progress on that front.Well, today ended a beautiful boss-free week. T'was rather nice. I managed to get a 9 page Newsletter done among answering phones, tending the front desk, and answering a multitude of questions. Now the week-end is here and I'm loving it. On Wednesday I came up with the idea of having a picnic lunch today. It was an indoor picnic because number one, we can't all be outside at the same time, and two, in this stupid heat, the food would have spoiled in minutes. It was nice. Char brought deviled eggs, Jan brought tossed salad with grilled, marinated, chicken strips and I made a macaroni salad. I also brought the drinks. Orange, Strawberry, grape and cream sodas. Our half hour sort of floated into an hour, but we manned the phones and nobody came into the office. Hell no! Everyone else was at the beach! That's ok. We had air conditioning. Then I came home.
We have an 8000 BTU air conditioner that doesn't work. Why doesn't it work? Because it is sitting on a ledge OUTSIDE the window. And why is that? Because three years ago when we bought it, it was the only one available within a 50 mile radius but it was made to go into a sleeve in the wall. So every year, I pull it in and we stuff styro-foam around it and there it sits until fall. But we have no styro-foam. I bet I do before midnight tomorrow.
I think just for giggles and because I am too hot to sleep, I will do the Friday 5!!! (five-five-fi-f)
1. How are you planning to spend the summer [winter]?
Working. I am taking July 2-7th off for a mini-vacation, but I'm staying home.
2. What was your first summer job?
I never really had a "summer" job. I went right into full time when I went to work. Unless you count babysitting.
3. If you could go anywhere this summer [winter], where would you go?
I would go to the lake. Pure and simple. I would load up a tackle box and off I would go. I miss it.
4. What was your worst vacation ever?
Probably in 1978. The ex and I spent a week in New Hampshire at his brothers house. They worked, we watched TV. Yup, that was a fun time.
5. What was your best vacation ever?
Best vacation EVER was in 1992. It was a winter vacation between jobs at the resorts. I was single and that previous summer a co-worker was going to use her Subaru as a trade-in. I gave her $1000.00 cash for it. It was worth at least $3000.00. I left there and a friend and I were supposed to start work in Florida in September. We took two weeks driving down, using our summer bonus money. Unfortunately, hurricane Andrew hit and by the time we got there, our jobs were non-existent. The resort was damaged so bad, they weren't planning on opening until January. We managed to get hired at the Hillsboro club in Pompano but the resort didn't open for a week. By the time we got the jobs, we were pretty tapped out and I sold the car for $1000.00. We spent a week in a motel on Pompano Beach. The off season rate was only $150.00 for the week, so we grabbed it. I managed to spend the rest of the money but we had a blast! We ended up having to get an advance of a few bucks to feed ourselves till the first paycheck. But for one week, I ate, drank and lived like I had money to burn. Yup, that was a very good time.
