from the start.

Friday, Sept. 19, 2003 6:31 P.M.

Thank God it's Friday

First of all, I want to thank all of you for all your support, prayers and condolences. They mean everything, honestly.

My brother Dale came Wednesday night from Maine and spent the night so we could get an early start. Terry couldn't go with us because he wouldn't have been able to sit for the entire trip. It would have been too much. Even at home, he sits in his chair for a while, moves to the couch and eventually has to lie down for a few hours to get off his butt. We knew it would be at least 7 hours in the car and another 3 in his manual chair which has no cushion. So he stayed home and sent his condolences.

As it was, we rode in Dale's car with brother Pete and Dale in the front and sister's Carol, Stella and me in the back seat. Not much room.

We headed out for this 3 hour trip at 6:15 a.m. Between construction every few miles, it took us 4 hours and 45 minutes. The funeral was at 11 and at 10:45 we pulled into town and had no idea where we were going. I had the bright idea of calling the Funeral home and talking to one of the director's who talked to me on the phone right up until we pulled into the driveway.

My Brother Ed didn't know we were coming. Because of the storm, he told us all to stay home. Aside from his chldren, Nancy's family and their friends, there would be nobody there for Ed, but he said he was ok with that. Obviousley, we weren't.

The wonderful people that were conducting the services got Ed and his two sons out into the office area on the pretext of something or other while we all got into the room. We were standing at the back when Ed came back out. He burst into tears. It broke my heart. He hugged us all and told us that he was so happy we were there.

Our youngest sister, Buella wasn't able to make the trip. She lives in North Carolina and with the hurricane so close, she would have been taking her life in her hands to be on the road. I told Ed this and, of course, he understood..

The service was lovely, with a few people telling stories of love and admiration for Nancy and then we all went to the cemetary. Ed held up well until after the eulogy. He broke down and again, it tore me up. It is so hard to see a loved on in so much pain and feel totally useless to do anything for them.

From the cemetary, we all went to Ed's church and met all of Nancy's relatives and their friends. The place was packed. She was well loved.

We left about 3:00 and never got home to RI until almost 8. Needless to say, I was exhausted today. I am heading up to bed soon.

Brother Dale's birthday was September 11th, so I am taking him to the Casino tomorrow and treating him to the buffett lunch. It should be a good time. I won't win any money, but I don't get to see him very often, so the alone time will be nice. I liked the Friday five this week, so I will try and post that tomorrow night. Once again, a day late.

You all have a great Saturday and once again, thank you for all or your prayers and notes of sympathy. They were very appreciated.

Later...

Later,
Cosmic
