Happy Saturday Again.

Guess what I did yesterday morning? I spent over an hour on Yahoo IM with this guy:

Yup, That would be one Spec Harry W. Seavey III - US Army - Mosul, Iraq. This picture was taked back in July. He is even thinner now. He had a web cam on his computer and he looked great! I had the best talk with him.

They buy phone cards and it gives them 8 hours online. It was so good to talk to him. He is tired and looking forward to next Friday. He gets his 2 week leave at home. We laughed a lot. He has grown so much since he's been there. Some of it is good and some of it was sad. Of course he couldn't give me details, but his lonliness came through now and then. He will hold these memories forever. For that, I feel bad. He is dealing with it well.

I asked him how much longer his duty is. He asked what I meant. I said that I knew he re-enlisted when he got out in Alaska. That was almost a year ago. He said 3 years. I said, "Oh, you only have two years left." He answered ,"Yes two years until I do it again." I said, "Again????"

Yes, he tells me. He has decided to stay in until he makes Master Sergeant! I give him a lot of credit. When he gets home for good in January, it is just for a short while and he will be off to Syria, Afghanistan, or even perhaps Turkey. When I asked why in heaven he would want to re-up again, his answer was simple.

"I am good at what I do. Why stop?"

He then said, "Aunt Karen, I wish you could see the look on these kids faces. We may not see a change for a generation, but these kids are that generation." I agreed with him. I said that we would want someone to do it for his two girls if the need came up. He said that's one of the reasons he's not complaining much about being there.

I am proud of him. Not just for being there, but for his reasons, his patriotism and for a whole lot more. This Veteran's Day is going to mean a little more to me this year. Though it has always meant a lot to me, it is so much closer to home now.

Later...

Later,
Cosmic
