Back from the Doctor's

Hey folks, guess what. I'm "remarkable!" Yes, that's right. Me. Remarkable. Who'd a thunk?

I got to the doctor's about 5 minutes early and there was no one else there, so they took me right in.

He asked How I was doing and I told him fine in every way but one. Last night when I changed the bandage, there was one tiny sliver of an area where there was no steri-strip. I touched it accidently and thought I would go through the ceiling. It felt as though there was a sliver of glass there! Ouch, big time!

I laughed when I told him because I followed that with the fact that there is no other pain and it makes me feel like a wuss.

He took of the wrap and started to take off the steri-strips and wouldn't you know, every time he pulled one off, he put a finger over that exact point. Taking off the rest of the strips didn't hurt a bit. So after taking them off, he said he said, "I know this is going to hurt, this is alcohol, but it has to be cleaned."

He started cleaning it and apologized while he wiped. I told him to stop apologizing because it didn't hurt a bit. Then he had me stretch out my arm with my palm down. He put his thumb against mine and his forefinger against my baby finger and told me to try to spread my fingers. I pushed as hard as I could and he told me he could feel the difference in the strength.

Then he asked how my two end fingers felt when he ran the dull part of his pen down the lenght of them. I told him that they were still numb, but instead of being "dead" numb, they felt more like "asleep" numb. He said he was very pleased that my recovery was happening at such a fast pace.

Last, he asked what how much movement I had before it felt uncomfortable or caused pain. So, I started by making a twising motion with my wrist like turning a doornob back and forth. Then I lifted my hand straight up over my head a few times, then I said, "Oh ya, and I can do this." I just reached up and scratched the back of my neck and part way dowm my back.

He just stared at me ans said, "You're remarkable."

I was happy that he was happy. I asked when I could return to work. He said, we will make that decision when I see you again in ONE MONTH! Holy time off, Batman! "

One month??? I thought you said a minimum of two weeks!"

"Yes I did. That was before the surgery. The way I had to do yours was to move the nerve out of the elbow area and pull it up here,(He truned my hand palm up and touched the inside of my elbow above the bone), make a sling for it and attach the whole thing there. It was pretty involved and I like to make sure it has recovered sufficiently to let you lift before I let you go back.

I told him I would need a note for my boss and he wrote one out. I explained that she was surprised that it would be as much as two weeks because she had had carpel tunnel surgery and all he said was, "This is a lot different than what she had." I looked at the note and handed it back to him. I said, "I know what you told me, but I think she better be able to read if for herself. Can you write it again?"

He laughed and did it again and sent me on my way with an appointment for May 17th.

I stopped at work and was waiting for it to hit the fan when she found out how long I would be out. All she said was that I needed to listen to my doctor. As least she knows I'm not milking this. I fully intended to go back on Monday.

Part of me is happy I have more time. Now I know I won't be overdoing it. I will use this time to just heal. But patience was never my strong suit. At least typing isn't an issue, so I guess there will be a lot of pogo in my immediate future. I may even get to enjoy some of this good weather they are promising.

Later,
Cosmic
