Yard Sale and Movies Good morning!
We had our yard sale yesterday. Can you say BOMB? Yes it was from a monetary point of view. After $5.00 for the permit and $11.90 for the newspaper ad, my total profit for the day was, (drum roll please) $10.60!! Yes, $10.60 cash in hand. But from a bartering standpoint, I made out ok. I had a beautiful picture for sale. Brother Pete had 6 eggs (2 porcelain, 2 granite, on brass and one ceramic) that I loved so we swapped the picture for one of his eggs. Then Stella and I swapped stuff and at the end, my neighbor had a foot bath/massager that he gave to sister Stella. The funny thing about that was he got it last year, free, from sister Carol at the end of our August yard sale! Brother Pete said next time we want to have a yard sale, we should skip the advertising and just invite your neighbors and family to have it together. And if we call it a cook-out, we could even save the cost of the permit, haha. It was a great day anyway. I hooked up a small stereo that I had bought last year from brother Pete for $20.00 and we listened to my Johnny Rivers, CCR, Bob Seegar and other oldies all day while sipping our respective beers, sombreros and coffees. I had a $10.00 price tag on the stereo so Pete bought it back from me with the rest of his eggs. By 4:00 the wind had really picked up and it was getting chilly. We boxed up the rest of the stuff we wanted to save (not much) and the rest we put out front with a free sign suck up on the pole. We put out a total of one wheelchair, one waffle iron and 5 boxes of leftovers. I went out this morning and all that is left is 2 boxes. That, Im sure will be gone within the day. Hey, better than throwing it out. As they say, one mans trash is another mans treasures. There are among the trash, some knick-knacks, muffin tins, drinking glasses and a few games. One brand new Trivial Pursuit game only used a couple of times. Someone will enjoy that assortment, Im sure. Either that, or I will see these same items at another yard sale before the summers over. Some people around here do that. They will go from yard sale to yard sale and pay almost nothing for things and then have a huge yard sale themselves at the end of summer and make a nice little profit. Good for them. Free enterprise. Today I have to clean house. I had torn everything apart Friday pulling out things for the yard sale. My house looks like a cyclone hit it. Last night, we watched LOTR, Return of the King. If you havent seen it yet (Though I am probably the last one) let me just tell you IMHO it was fantastic! Since it is to be the last of the LOTR movies, I started watching it hoping only that they wouldnt leave it with unanswered questions. I hate it when they dont finish up all the loose ends. They left only one. But I decided what it meant myself. I may be wrong, but who cares. If anyone cares to know what Im talking about, they can e-mail me. I am curios to know if anyone else came to the same conclusion. But that said, it was a great movie. Oh, and before I forget. I watched a movie the other night. If you like drama, sort of chick-flick but not and dont mind watching Julia Roberts (I personally like her) You should by all means rent Mona Lisa Smile. It is one of her best acting roles. Good movie for a rainy day. Not really any action, no sex, no profanity nor any booty shots, but a great storyline. An excellent movie for women. Dont make your hubby or male SO watch it. Trust me, most of them wont get it.
