I have never heard of this gentleman, but I grew up with the first two songs and the last one is sung in my favorie
scene of one of my favorite movies, Beetlejuice.
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) Erik Darling, the reedyvoiced guitarist and banjo player who deftly stepped in when Pete Seeger left the pioneering folk music group The Weavers, has died. He was 74.
In an e-mail posted on Darlings Web site, Willard Svanoe, a fellow member of The Rooftop Singers, said Darling died Sunday in Chapel Hill after battling lymphoma.
He was perhaps best known for his hit Walk Right In and for his arrangement of the iconic Southern true-crime ballad Tom Dooley, which inspired The Kingston Trios recording of the song that topped the charts in 1958. He was a member of the Tarriers, known for its version of The Banana Boat Song (Day-O) the signature tune of Harry Belafonte.
In his Honor
Walk Right In
Walk right in, sit right down
Daddy, let your mind roll on
Walk right in, sit right down
Daddy, let your mind roll on
Everybody's talkin' 'bout a new way of walkin'
Do you want to lose your mind?
Walk right in, sit right down
Daddy, let your mind roll on
Walk right in, sit right down
Baby, let your hair hang down
Walk right in, sit right down
Baby, let your hair hang down
Everybody's talkin' 'bout a new way of walkin'
Do you want to lose your mind?
Walk right in, sit right down
Baby, let your hair hang down
[guitar interlude]
Walk right in, sit right down
Daddy, let your mind roll on
Walk right in, sit right down
Daddy, let your mind roll on
Everybody's talkin' 'bout a new way of walkin'
Do you want to lose your mind?
Walk right in, sit right down
Daddy, let your mind roll on
Daddy, let your mind roll on
Tom Dooley
Hang down your head, Tom Dooley
Hang down your head and cry
Hang down your head, Tom Dooley
Poor boy, you're bound to die
I met her on the mountain
There I took her life
Met her on the mountain
Stabbed her with my knife
Hang down your head, Tom Dooley
Hang down your head and cry
Hang down your head, Tom Dooley
Poor boy, you're bound to die
This time tomorrow
Reckon where I'll be
Hadn't a-been for Grayson
I'd a-been in Tennessee
Hang down your head, Tom Dooley
Hang down your head and cry
Hang down your head, Tom Dooley
Poor boy, you're bound to die
Hang down your head, Tom Dooley
Hang down your head and cry
Hang down your head, Tom Dooley
Poor boy, you're bound to die
This time tomorrow
Reckon where I'll be
Down in some lonesome valley
Hangin' from a white oak tree
Poor boy, you're bound to die
Poor boy you're bound to die
Poor boy, you're bound to die...
