When it Rains, it Pours

Boy, when it rains, it pours. First, Terry just left for the hospital for his surgery. The surgery that I am Really scared about. I don't know why. This will make about th 15th surgery/procedure he has had in 2 1/2 years, and I just have an off feeling about it. I don't know why.

Next, I saw my daughter and granddaughters yesterday and it was great to see them. When they left and I went to Bingo. When I got home, I called to talk to my daughter and found out the ambulance was just leaving. Apparently, she had thaem at the sitters while she went to do a bond. The sitter lives on a lake. Off the dock is about 5 feet deep. The kids are not supposed to go behind the house to the lake. Including my two oldest granddaughters, there were about 5 kids out there. Trust kids to do what they aren't supposed to do. Deja, my almost 5 year old fell in. She sank twice, when the oldest, Brittni (9) ran to the house screaming that she fell in. Of course she was, (thank God) pulled out within seconds. Medcu was called. She was shaken, but not as much as the adults. They didn't know Deja can swim. (But not well) Lori got there just as the ambulance was driving away.

The sitter was scared to death. She should have been. Never, ever put a child's life on the line and trust that "They know better". They don't. That is why God made parents and babysitters.

Though the first thing that came to my mind was that, at 9, Brittni knew better than to be there, all I did was let her know how proud I was that she went for help. It scared her to death too, thinking she could have lost her little sister. Though Deja can swim a bit, she never would have been able to pull herself up onto the dock.

And the next thing on my plate yesterday was Arizona. Sister Carol that came back here in February lived in Sho Low. Her daught (my neice) her husband and their two kids still live there. Or should I say, they MAY still live there. read on:

Ariz. Wildfire Grows to 85,000 Acres

Fri Jun 21, 2:51 AM ET

By ALISA BLACKWOOD, Associated Press Writer

SHOW LOW, Ariz. (AP) - A fire in the tinder-dry forests of eastern Arizona raced through a hastily abandoned town Thursday, chasing firefighters off the line, destroying at least a dozen homes and prompting the evacuation of thousands of residents as it quickly grew to 85,000 acres.

"This is a monster," said Jim Paxon, a U.S. Forest Service fire information officer.

The fire roared through the upscale vacation community of Pinedale charring 12 to 15 homes in the outlying areas of the rural community, Paxon said, citing a preliminary assessment.

"The good news is, it was not the 70 or 80 we were anticipating," Paxon said early Friday.

Virtually all 390 residents had fled a day earlier and fire crews had to pull back because the fire was too dangerous. Officials estimated the flames were reaching 2,000 degrees.

"We're at the mercy of Mother Nature right now. There's not a whole lot we can do with it," said Larry Humphrey, the incident fire commander.

The so-called Rodeo fire began Tuesday about 110 miles northeast of Phoenix and it was nowhere close to being contained. It has forced more than 4,000 people to flee their homes in Pinedale, Linden and Clay Springs.

Another blaze burning across 2,600 acres of the Fort Apache Indian Reservation forced the evacuation Thursday night of about 4,000 residents in the communities of Heber-Overgaard and Aripine, said fire spokeswoman Chadeen Palmer. That blaze began as a signal fire started by a lost hiker.

"It's just a waiting game," said Bob Jackson, who along with his wife fled to an evacuation center. "All you can do is say a prayer."

Residents of Show Low, a city of 7,700 just east of Pinedale, and another 3,500 people in neighboring Pinetop-Lakeside were told to be ready to evacuate on an hour's notice.

Marilyn Price, the fire chief in Linden, said her department had to pull crews out of Pinedale because the Rodeo fire was "so fast and so hot."

At an evacuation center 60 miles away, Pinedale residents wept as they were told the bad news. Also sobbing was Lana Rexroat, a mother of four who is expecting another child in six weeks, after learning the blaze was within three miles of her home in Clay Springs.

"I want to have a home to take my baby to in six weeks," she said.

The Rodeo fire was one of 19 major blazes burning across the nation Thursday, according to the National Interagency Fire Center in Boise, Idaho. Wildfires have scorched 1.84 million acres so far this year far ahead of the 10-year average of 888,000 acres.

In Colorado, crews took advantage of rain and cooler weather to attack a 136,000-acre blaze. Fire information officer Melissa Petersen said Thursday that the wildfire had burned 79 homes. Some of the 8,900 people forced to evacuate have been allowed to return. In federal court in Denver on Thursday, Forest Service employee Terry Barton pleaded innocent to charges accusing her of setting the fire.

In southwestern Colorado, two large fires continued to rage out of control after forcing hundreds of people out of their homes.

Crews near Durango, Colo., battled a fire that jumped containment lines and grew by 4,000 acres to 58,000 acres Thursday. About 33 homes have been destroyed and 400 more were threatened.

"This is a very dangerous situation," Rep. Scott McInnis R-Colo., said after touring the area by helicopter.

A blaze 70 miles away grew to 4,050 acres and had destroyed eight homes near the community of South Fork. Officials earlier said the fire was 6,000 acres but reduced the estimate after an aerial survey.

In Arizona, authorities said they didn't know how the Rodeo fire started but suggested it had been caused by man. More than 200 firefighters were frantically trying to contain the fire's eastern and western flanks, but crews were kept away from the northern edge because of the danger.

About 152 National Guard soldiers were sent to the Show Low area to help out. State criminal courts in Maricopa County, where Phoenix is located, were to be closed Friday to free sheriff's deputies to help.

Troy Hvidsten, a spokesman for the Linden Fire Department, said firefighters wouldn't be able to save a 500-home neighborhood because the houses are made of wood and there was too much surrounding fuel.

Evacuees were directed to school gymnasiums in Springerville and Eagar, both an hour's drive east of the fire.

"It makes me a little nervous to know it's coming and there's nothing we can do about it," said Show Low resident Ben Butler, who stayed up all night with his wife preparing to flee.

Paxon said firefighting resources were strained because of fires burning elsewhere in the Southwest. "There's a shortage of everything," Paxon said.

Thank God, they left early. We have no idea when they will return to there home, or what will be left of it.

I just thank God that out of everything in the past two days, everyone is alove and well. I will update later today, after Terry's surgery and let you know how he is doing.

Later...

Later,
Cosmic
