Just needing some input. I put an add in the paper to find a home for Goodgirl. So far, after two days, no calls. I have a moral question to ask you all. Please don't think me horrible for considering this. It doesn't come easy. My heart is breaking. Here is the scenario and the question You have a pet cat.
This pet is 8 years old and is already showing signs of age. She won't go outside in bad weather. She sleeps more than she is awake. She has lived her entire life with two old farts. Once, the old farts got a dog and had to take it back after 4 days because pet cat couldn't share space with said dog. Pet cat goes outside and comes in at night.
Out side has cyotes, racoons and other wildlife. The only alternative at this point is to take her to the Animal shelter where they will find her a home. Cats have fantastic memories, which means that the first time new owner opens door, said pet will return to old house. If pet returns after you leave, she will most likely become ferral and die of the cold or starvation come winter. The Question: Would it be more humane to take the chance that she will be adopted and live a long life with someone without pets or kids and never get outside or have her put to sleep. I am not an advocate for euthanasia for the sake of getting rid of an animal, but I am really afraid that her last years will be spent in terror fighting for her life. This isn't a case of getting rid of her. I could give her to a few people that said they would take her but choose not to for reasons I won't go into. I alone have the final decision to make, but I would appreciate some input. If I take her to the shelter, she may end up being adopted by the perfect person, but she could also be adopted by a family with kids. I know how she is with my grandkids. They are very gentle kids, but she is terrified of them. She hides. I know if she gets loose, she will come back here. Again, I am heartsick. What would you do? I have exhausted all possibilities. |
