Yard sale, score!!!

Happy Sunday!

I had a very busy day yesterday and never sat at the computer for anything but checking my e-mail.

Me, Carol and Stella went and found about 7 yard sales. I got a few deals. I picked up two movies, "Pitch Black" and "bringing Out the Dead" with Nicholas Cage. I have heard about pitch black, but not the other one, but with Nicolas Cage, you can't go wrong. Especially at $2.00 each.

I wanted a new four-slice toaster but hadn't gotten around to buying one yet. Our old two-slice only toasts on one side now. It is ready for the pasture.

This lady had a brand new one for $10.00! It is imitation wood and black, so it matches the kitchen. And I talked her down to $6.00. Go me! I love yard sales. It is sort of like bargaining in a third world country. If you just look at the price and pay for it, some people almost seem hurt that you skipped the bargaining dance. It is sort of a ritual. I think one reason is that if you at least try and talk them down, they know they have asked a reasonable price. If you don't , they go the rest of the day thinking they could have gotten more. So we danced, I led, I won.

I also bought something else that ticled me to no end. I keep my silverware in two wicker baskets. They are about 5 inches high with four sections. I stand up the silverware which makes it easy to just pluck out a knife or fork when needed and it also means that I just stick them in after washing and they air dry. Since I started this, I will never go back to putting it in a silverware thingy or the drawer again. They just get so yucky and take up space. I had two of these baskets. I used one for everday silverware and on for the lagre spoons, salad forks and other odds and ends. When one broke, it threw me off. Carol gave me one but it was larger than the other one, so it looked off kilter too. But yesterday, lo and behold, I came across the perfect thing. It is a wicker/wrought iron wine caddy. It has two large round sections and is welded together with a handle. The round part just had wire going up the side with one inch gaps between. This wouldn't do, as the silver would just fall out, so I emptied out one cardboard round Quacker oat meal canister and one round breadcrumb canister and cut them down. I covered them with brown tape and viola! Instant silverware caddy! I am so proud of myself! They even have little green wrought iron leaves on them that match my kitchen clock and counter background. My kitchen is pretty much the way I want it now, except for my coffee maker. That is still white. I have to get a black one. Oh, and a new floor. Then it's done!

I couldn't find another pair of cherub bedspreads for the bedroom so that theme is now passe. I have bought two comforter sets that are really old fashioned looking. They come with the skirt and shams, so all I have to do is replace the cherub curtains and the bedroom will be done except for the two headboards Terry is making. Whew! It is never ending. But I love it. Making my home nice is fun. At least when I spend money, I can see where it went.

Well, today Terry and I are having a Star Trek-fest. I now have managed to acquire every Star Trek movie ever made. We are going to do our chores and then settle in for a Trek Day. I know some of you are groaning with the sheer boredom of how that sounds, but we be strange folks. We love our "movie time" together. So I have to run and finish the laundry and vacuum so I won't feel guilty sitting on my butt for the rest of the day.

Later.....

Later,
Cosmic
