from the start.

Saturday, Dec. 06, 2003 11:59 A.M.

Wow, A long one.

This is what I woke up to this morning. This shows the door frame. It isn't really a very good indicator. It only looks like about 3 inches. So far in actuality, we have received about 7 inches of the white fluff. I have no intention of going anywhere beyond the yard today. I have managed to shovel the steps, to the car and most of the ramp. I had to come in for a break. I'm not as young as I used to be.

Terry would love to do the shoveling, but he would slide down the ramp. That's ok, he is making brunch while I do this. Eggs, corn beef hash and toast with a piping hot cup of coffee. That will give me enough energy to finish the porch.

We are still supposed to get a possible 7 more inches before this ends tomoow evening.

I am decorating the tree later today and Maybe tonight, if the roads stay good, Stella and Jeff will come up for Trivial Pursuit.

I love a stuck-in-the-house-day.

Our team won the Diaryland Survivor challange this week! woohoo! I shall live to see another challange. I am having fun with this.

It is difficult trying to get into an idea that someone else has come up with. Not a bad thing, but it is difficult. I don't know what I would come up with for a new IC if it were my job. I guess it's a good thing I'm just playing and not running it.

I wonder, too, who will get the boot from the Kidd team. We shall find out on Sunday night, I guess.

Now isn't this lovely? We not only have to worry about babies being born with MS, CF, or other birth defects that we still have no control over, we now have to worry about a whole generation filled with who knows what. We spend billions of tears and tons of money every year to help eliminate these birth defects so that children will be born heathy and parents will not need to have fear during pregnancy and now we have to worry about a manufactured one. Read on:

ROME (Reuters) - Cocaine and ecstasy not only cause addiction and raise the risk of cancer but also provoke genetic mutations, Italian scientists said Friday.

"Cocaine and ecstasy have proved to be more dangerous than we had imagined," said Giorgio Bronzetti, chief scientist at the National Center for Research's (CNR) biotechnology department.

"These drugs, on top of their toxicological effects, attack DNA provoking mutations and altering the hereditary material. This is very worrying for the effects it could have on future generations," he said.

The use of ecstasy, a drug popular at all-night dance parties, increased by 70 percent between 1995 and 2000 according to a United Nations (news - web sites) report published in September.

Ecstasy and amphetamines have overtaken cocaine and heroin as the fastest growing global narcotics menace, the study said.

The CNR report, which took more than three years to complete, said animal tests had shown a direct relationship between ecstasy and cocaine intake and the effects on DNA.

"In other words, the longer the time frame of drug consumption, the greater the damage to DNA," Bronzetti said.

We have enough genetic problems without inventing new ones simply because mom and dad wanted to party for awhile before settling down to parenting. This isn't just kids either. Many childbearing people are into coke and ectasy. I hope they realize the crap shoot they are into. I hope they can say "adoption".

Unfortunately, as with many things, the thought process will probably kick in that "It couldn't happen to me." The article doesn't mention how the DNA mutations will manifest themselves. So that leaves the choice of physical mutation, mental mutation or any number of other ways. How scarey is that?

Potentially millions of people will be walking the earth in the next 20 to 30 years with mutated DNA of some sort that may be visible or invisible. One can only hope that if the DNA is to mutate into someone giving birth to more violence or say someone who would live a life of pain, that the mutation will also cause sterility.

I can't imagine the mutation being a good thing.

I don't think terrorists or war will end this species. We are doing that all well and good on our own.

Later...

Later,
Cosmic
